Microsoft Office SharePoint Server is a great product by itself, but one of the SharePoint features that are under-utilized by most customers is the integration with other products. The most common integration right out of the box is replacing the file system with an enterprise content repository in SharePoint. Not only are all of your documents in one place, but they can be easily searched, cataloged, and any revisions can be saved and numbered.
A more complex, but also more useful integration is adding workflow projects to SharePoint. Simple workflow can be added to a Human Resource function just to have a manager approve paid time-off, just by clicking an Approved or Declined button with an email automatically being sent to HR, the employee, and any managers. A more complex workflow could be built with decision trees, and approvals needed by several people.
If you have programming staff available onsite or SharePoint consultants available there are numerous custom integration you can do with SharePoint - automatically adding documents or forms to SharePoint, automatically adding emails to a specific address or a specific subject, etc.
These are just a few integration methods with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server to streamline your business!
